Maresca: 'I enjoyed it, absolutely'

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, speaking to BBC Sport after the match, said: "I enjoyed it, absolutely. The performance was good. We know them quite well and we competed pretty well. The performance is very important for us in this moment and it was good. We can rest now and go again.

"The performance from Pedro (Neto) was very good, all of them, complete. We played in the way we wanted to, brave, and try and play from the back always.

"It is the way we want to do the things. We try and play face to face against every team. We are Chelsea, so it is important to send this message. There are managers that have been clubs for five and nine years so we are behind them."

Discussing midfielder Moises Caicedo, the Italian added: "He has been a top professional ever since I arrived and he's playing fantastic."

Arsenal's winless run continues

Getty Images

After today's draw Arsenal have gone four consecutive Premier League games without a win for the first time since April 2023 (drawn two, lost two).

They had picked up all three points in 21 of their previous 25 league matches before this (drawn three, lost one).

A lack of a ruthless edge?

Arteta: I am proud but we're here to win

Mikel Arteta was asked in his post-match interview with Sky Sports whether he was happy with the one point or disappointed to drop two points.

"Both, I would say. But obviously the disappointment of not getting the three points is bigger and it will be bigger tomorrow after watching it back," said the Arsenal manager.

"Again, the team stood up. I think we dominated them, we were the better team in many phases and situations in the game. But after going ahead, (I am) very disappointed in the way we conceded the goal. So poor, it is not our standards. We don't accept it.

"After that, the reaction of the team was unbelievable against this team. I am really proud of them but, at the end, we are here to get the three points and we didn't manage to do it."

Arsenal's defence looking more vulnerable

Today was the fourth time that Arsenal have faced 15 or more shots in a Premier League game this season.

That figure is already twice as many times as they did so across the whole of the 2023-24 campaign (twice).

That despite the return of Jurrien Timber to fitness and the signing of Riccardo Calafiori.

Curious.

Chelsea back in the Premier League top three

In recent years, Chelsea supporters will be unfamiliar with seeing their team so high in the Premier League table.

They end a day in the top three for the first time since the final of the 2021-22 season.

Credit must go to Enzo Maresca for coming in and managing to hit the ground running, especially given the amount of players he inherited.

Cucurella was awarded the Player of the Match for the way he stifled Saka's threat and he was asked about his battle with the Arsenal winger.

"He's a top player. We've played a lot of times against each other. There is big respect," said the Chelsea left-back. "He's a top player. I try to do my work and he wants to do his work. It's a good battle and hopefully we can do more of it.

"I try not to give him space, to always be close to him. We know he's a special talent so I need to do my job on the pitch. Today, I tried to do the best of me and we got a point."

Cucurella: We are doing a lot of things well

In the same interview, Marc Cucurella echoed a lot of what Pedro Neto said,

"It was a tough game," added the Spaniard. "(The Arsenal players) have played with each other with the same idea for a long time.

"We played well and we want to win but we drew and we need to keep going this way. We are doing a lot of things well so we need to stay in this way and push more."

Neto: 'A good point against a tough team'

Pedro Neto was the man who rescued the point for Chelsea with his first Premier League goal for the club.

He was asked, in his post-match interview with Sky Sports, if it was a good point for the hosts.

"We wanted to win," he said. "But we had hard work in front of us, we know that they are a good team.

"We came into the game to win it so we're not as happy as we wanted to be but we don't want to lose either. It's a good point against a tough team."

Chelsea have work to do in the big games

A fair result — neither side did enough to deserve a win there.

Chelsea into third on goal difference, which they certainly would have taken before the start of the season.

But that is one win in their last five Premier League games.

And they have taken just two points from matches against both Manchester clubs, Liverpool and Arsenal — work to do.

A long-awaited Neto strike from distance

A landmark day for Pedro Neto, whose first Premier League goal for Chelsea has earned them a point.

It was actually his first league from outside the penalty area since January 1, 2020, the day he scored his very first Premier League goal.

It was well worth the wait!

A cameo to forget for Trossard

Getty Images

Two huge moments for Leandro Trossard in the dying embers of the match.

First, he blazed a huge chance over the crossbar, although the offside flag saved his blushes there.

But, no such reprieve right at the death. He nudged Saliba's brilliant low cross wide of the target and, crucially, past the sliding Havertz at the far post.

Had Trossard not got a touch, the German would have very likely have poked the ball into the wide-open net.

Standings: Chelsea and Arsenal into the top four

The good news for both teams: as Max said, they've moved into the top four with a point each.

The bad news for both teams: they're 10 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool.

That is how the table looks going into the final international break of 2024.

Are Arsenal already too far back to win the title?

Robert Sanchez enjoyed the equaliser!

No one enjoyed Pedro Neto's equaliser as much as Robert Sanchez.

The Chelsea goalkeeper will be criticised for not covering his near post for Gabriel Martinelli's opening goal, so he was able to breathe a mighty sigh of relief when his Portuguese team-mate levelled up 10 minutes later.

How's the table looking now?

The Athletic

Chelsea and Arsenal are third and fourth respectively with 19 points, though it's very close outside the top four.

At the bottom, Crystal Palace fall into the bottom three after Ipswich's win today.

Both teams getting clapped off

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca shakes hands with Arsenal's coaching team and circumnavigates the stadium, clapping the home fans.

They've played pretty well. Arsenal were OK too.

The draw is a fair result, I think.

That's it!

Referee Michael Oliver blows his whistle for the final time today.

That Arsenal chance, and possible winner, would have been the last kick of the game.

Arsenal could have won it!

90+6' Chelsea 1-1 Arsenal

HOW CLOSE IS THAT?!

Arsenal attack, Martin Odegaard has it outside the area, plays it left to William Saliba - what's he doing there?! - and he puts a lovely pass across the penalty area.

Two Arsenal players, Trossard and Havertz, are waiting to put the ball into the net, but Trossard only gets a weak, faint touch that slides wide, but the touch is enough to take it off the toe of a sliding Havertz.

The German cannot believe it. Mikel Arteta has thrown himself to the ground in his dugout in disbelief!.
