Child drowns at playground in Avalon Park

A child drowned at Avalon Park in Lower Hutt last night.

Police said emergency services were called to Avalon Park at around 8.10pm after a child was retrieved, unresponsive, from a shallow pond.

CPR was undertaken but the child could not be resuscitated.

The death will be referred to the Coroner.

At Eastbourne beach, emergency services were called this morning when a man suffered a medical event. CPR was given but he died.
