Winds have reached 120km/h in parts of Auckland, but there could be worse to come.
MetService says winds are expected to peak on Wednesday afternoon and evening, with gusts much higher and more frequent than the morning.
It comes after a line of severe thunderstorms rapdily passed over Auckland, bringing hail, power cuts and plunging temperatures.

The National Emergency Management Agency advises that in times of crisis or civil defence emergency a battery powered radio or a car radio remain essential lifelines if power is out and other forms of communication are unavailable.
