Tech issue resolved at Auckland Airport international check-in
A technology issue impacting the check-in system at Auckland Airport's international terminal this morning has been resolved.
A spokesperson earlier warned the issue was "creating delays and congestion".
In a statement at about 6.50am, an Auckland Airport spokesperson said the problem was an external network outage, leading to long queues.
"It's an emerging issue, and our team is working as quickly as possible with external parties to resolve it," the spokesperson said.
Domestic flights were not impacted by the outage.
In an update at about 9.40am, the airport spokesperson said "systems have now been restored".
"Auckland Airport and airlines are working to process customers as quickly as possible.
"Airlines are underway checking in passengers and bags," the spokesperson said.
Earlier, airlines needed to manually check-in customers, slowing the process down.
'The check-in area is still busy'
The airport's chief operations officer Chloe Surridge thanked passengers for their "understanding and patience" as staff worked through the issue.
"The check-in area is still busy and the airport team is on hand with snacks and water, and support for parents who may be travelling with young children. Airlines also have additional staff on board and we hope to clear the queues as quickly as possible.
"Auckland Airport asks that travellers please continue to keep updated about their flight times by checking their airline's apps and websites."
Not all airlines were affected by the outage, an airport spokesperson noted.
Delayed flights
Auckland Airport earlier said the issue was "causing slower than usual processes for some airlines checking-in passengers".
"Additional members of the Auckland Airport team are available in the check in area to support international travellers, offering customers who have been waiting water and snacks."
Affected travellers were urged to get in touch with their airline for further details.
The airport's website showed a number of flights departed, albeit well after their scheduled times this morning.
Air NZ asks customers not to arrive too early
In an earlier statement, Air New Zealand asked customers not too arrive at the airport too early for their flights.
"Due to a network outage, we are experiencing congestion at our international check-in area at Auckland Airport, which may lead to delays for international flights this morning.
"To help ease congestion, we ask customers to avoid arriving at the terminal too far in advance of their check-in time," the airline's general manager for airports Kate Boyer said.
"Domestic flights are largely unaffected but may experience some minor delays this morning due to requiring manual paperwork delivery because of the outage."
Travellers were advised to check the Air NZ app or website for updates.
"We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time."
'Queues out the door'
One Facebook user wrote in a post that "lines are almost out the door".
"Auckland Airport hurry up," they wrote. "No room to walk or move."
A Reddit user said: "Nothing moving.. queues out the door."
