The England international travelled to Arsenal’s London Colney training ground on Friday evening to complete his medical and finalise the transfer.

The 29-year-old attacker will spend the 2024-25 campaign at the Emirates Stadium having been told he has no future at Stamford Bridge under new head coach Enzo Maresca.

Sterling joined Chelsea from Manchester City in 2022 for a £47.5 million fee and has made 81 appearances for the west London club since then.

His move to north London sees Sterling reunite with Mikel Arteta having previously worked under the Spanish coach during his time at City.

Arteta, who won two Premier League titles as Pep Guardiola’s assistant, is a huge admirer of the forward’s and the pair still have a strong relationship from their time together at the Etihad.

“We all know Raheem’s qualities, he is a top talent with a lot of experience who can help the team in a big way,” Arteta told TNT Sport over Sterling’s arrival.

“He has his numbers (at Manchester City) because he played under a great manager with great players, he scores a lot of goals and creates a lot of problems for the opponents.”

Sterling won four Premier League titles and one FA Cup after joining City from Liverpool in 2015. He is currently 19th in the all-time list for most Premier League goals and 20th for assists.

Sterling has 82 caps for England but not made an appearance at international level since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Sterling sees a temporary move to Arsenal as a potential platform for a return to the international stage.

He would become Arsenal’s fourth summer arrival. Goalkeeper David Raya made his loan move from Brentford permanent, defender Riccardo Calafiori joined from Bologna and midfielder Mikel Merino arrived last week from Real Sociedad.
