At its September press event Tuesday, Apple unveiled the second-gen Apple Watch Ultra and the premium smartwatch is available to preorder right now. While the design has remained much the same, the 2023 Ultra is powered by Apple's new S9 chip, the same featured in the Series 9, for increased performance and power efficiency, plus there's a new extra-bright display.

Athletes will benefit from more advanced metrics for running and cycling, and extended altitude range is a boon for hikers and scuba divers. The battery life remains the longest in the Apple Watch lineup at 36 hours per charge, or up to 72 hours in low-power mode.

Amazon's preorder links for Apple Watch Ultra 2 are now live with devices set for release on Sept. 22. There are no discounts there currently but we'll keep tabs on any future savings.

Best Buy's trade-in program offers as much as $200 off the Apple Watch Ultra 2 at launch. It's a good way to go if you want to get some money back from a Garmin, Fitbit or Samsung smartwatch, though previous-gen Apple Watch models will score the biggest savings.

Buy two Apple Watch models and get $300 off at AT&T, no trade-in required. At least one new line is required and a qualifying installment plan is needed for both cellular devices. The $300 discount will be provided via bill credits.
