ACC Teams in the Top 25
• The ACC begins the 2024-25 campaign with six teams in the Preseason AP Poll, headlined by four teams in the top 15. Notre Dame led the way at No. 6, while NC State is No. 9, Duke is No. 11 and North Carolina is No. 15. Louisville and Florida State closely followed at No. 17 and No. 19, respectively, while Stanford, Miami, Georgia Tech and Syracuse are all receiving votes.
• In the Preseason USA Today Sports Coaches Poll, five ACC teams are in the Top 25 with Notre Dame (5), NC State (8), Duke (11), North Carolina (16), Louisville (17) and Florida State (19). Stanford, Virginia Tech, California and Miami are receiving votes.
Notre Dame Picked to Win ACC
• The 2024-25 Preseason ACC Predicted Order of Finish was announced on Tuesday, October 15, as the Notre Dame was selected as the top team by the league's head coaches and Blue Ribbon Panel.
• Notre Dame (1726 points) received 70 of the 79 possible first-place votes to land at the top of this year’s poll. It marks the first time the Fighting Irish have been projected to win the league since 2018.
Preseason All-ACC Team Announced
• After rewriting the ACC's freshman record book, Notre Dame guard Hannah Hidalgo was named the 2024-25 Preseason ACC Player of the Year. Hidalgo was named the ACC Defensive Player and Rookie of the Year a season ago, becoming just the second player in league history to win both awards in the same season.
• Joining Hidalgo on the 10-member Preseason All-ACC Team was: Florida State's Ta'Niya Latson and Makayla Timpson, NC State's Saniya Rivers and Aziaha James, Notre Dame's Olivia Miles and Sonia Citron, North Carolina's Alyssa Ustby, Duke's Reigan Richardson and Virginia's Kymora Johnson.
• The 2024-25 Newcomer Watch List consisted of Notre Dame's Kate Koval and Liza Karlen, Duke's Toby Fournier, Louisville's Imari Berry and NC State's Zamareya Jones.
Preseason Honors
• Notre Dame's Hannah Hidalgo was named to the Preseason AP All-American list as one of three sophomores on the five-member team.
• ESPNW placed six ACC players in its Top 25 players in Women's Basketball players for 2024-25. The list included Notre Dame's Hannah Hidalgo (3), Olivia Miles (13) and Sonia Citron (14), Florida State's Ta'Niya Latson (15) and NC State's Aziaha James (20) and Saniya Rivers (24).
• Nine ACC players were named to the 2024-25 Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Women's Player of the Year Watch List presented by Axia Time. The list included Sonia Citron (Notre Dame), Hannah Hidalgo, (Notre Dame), Aziaha James (NC State), Ta'Niya Latson (Florida State), Olivia Miles, (Notre Dame), Reigan Richardson (Duke), Saniya Rivers, (NC State), Makayla Timpson (Florida State) and Alyssa Ustby (North Carolina).
• Taina Mair (Duke), Hannah Hidalgo (Notre Dame), Olivia Miles (Notre Dame) were named to the 2025 Nancy Lieberman Award Watch List.
• Ta'Niya Latson (Florida State), Jayda Curry (Louisville), Saniya Rivers (NC State), Sonia Citron (Notre Dame) were named to the 2025 Anne Meyers Drysdale Award Watch List.
• Makayla Timpson (Florida State), Olivia Cochran (Louisville), Maddy Westbeld (Notre Dame), Liatu King (Notre Dame) and Liza Karlen (Notre Dame) were named to the 2025 Katrina McClain Award Watch List.
• Andrea Daley (Boston College), Alyssa Ustby (North Carolina), Madison Hayes (NC State) were named to the 2025 Cheryl Miller Award Watch List.
• Kennedi Jackson (Boston College), Nyla Harris (Louisville), Maria Gakdeng (North Carolina) were named to the 2025 Lisa Leslie Award Watch List.
Another Memorable Season in 2023-24
• NC State became the sixth ACC team in the last six seasons to advance to the Women's Final Four. With the addition of three new schools, current ACC schools have made eight Final Fours in that same span.
• NC State also became the 19th Elite Eight team from the ACC since 2014, the most among all conferences in that span. The ACC has sent at least one team to the Elite Eight since 2001 totaling 35 teams in that timeframe.
• Three ACC teams advanced to the Sweet 16 in 2023-24, extending the conference's streak of having a team in the regional semifinals in every NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament, dating back to 1982.
• Since 2014, 35 ACC teams have advanced to the Sweet 16, the most among all conferences. The ACC has sent at least three teams to every Sweet 16 in the same span.
• For the sixth straight season, the ACC sent eight teams to the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament, tying the conference record. Led by hosts NC State, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech, the ACC’s NCAA contingent also includes Duke, Florida State, Louisville, North Carolina and Syracuse. The eight ACC teams tie for the most bids among all conferences.
ACC & The WNBA
?• In April, three former ACC standouts were selected in the 2024 WNBA Draft, with Syracuse's Dyaisha Fair and Virginia Tech's Elizabeth Kitley selected in the second round by the Las Vegas Aces, while Louisville's Kiki Jefferson was taken in the third round by the Minnesota Lynx. It marked the 27th straight season the ACC had at least one player selected in the WNBA Draft.
In the past eight years, the conference has had 51 players selected in the WNBA Draft.
• A total of 38 players from current ACC schools closed the regular season on WNBA rosters. In the postseason, 25 players from ACC schools participated in the 2024 WNBA Playoffs.
• Former Notre Dame standout Arike Ogunbowale was named the MVP of the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game. A former ACC player has won All-Star MVP honors in three of the last four years.
• Six former ACC standouts were selected for the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game. The list included Dearica Hamby (Wake Forest), Kayla McBride (Notre Dame) and Arike Ogunbowale (Notre Dame) for Team WNBA, while Chelsea Gray (Duke), Jewell Loyd (Notre Dame) and Jackie Young (Notre Dame) will compete for Team USA. Stanford alum Nneka Ogwumike was also named to Team WNBA.
• Three players from current ACC schools have reached the finals of the WNBA Playoffs, as all three former standouts are on the Minnesota Lynx. The players include Myisha Hines-Allen (Louisville), Alanna Smith (Stanford), Kyla McBride (Notre Dame).
New Faces
• Not including California's Charmin Smith and SMU's Toyelle Wilson who will also begin their first seasons in the ACC, four ACC coaches will begin their first year at their respective schools. The list includes Clemson's Shawn Poppie, Miami's Tricia Cullop, Stanford's Kate Paye and Virginia Tech's Megan Duffy.
A Look Back at the 2024 Ally ACC Women's Basketball Championship
• Notre Dame claimed its sixth ACC championship with a 55-51 victory over NC State in the title game of the 2024 Ally ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament. The title marked the Fighting Irish’s first since 2019 and marked the first time a No. 4 seed won the title since 1999.
• Notre Dame guard Hannah Hidalgo was named MVP of the 2024 Ally ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament after she averaged averaged 19.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game. She became just the fifth freshman in ACC history to win MVP honors.
• The 2024 Ally ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament marked the 47th edition of the longest running conference women’s basketball championship in the nation and it was the 24th time in the last 25 years that the Greensboro Coliseum hosted the event.
• More than 67,000 fans attended last season’s Ally ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament, the highest attended tournament since 2009.
• Session 7 of the 2024 Ally ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament broke a session attendance record, drawing 15,202 fans. 2024 also marked the first time three sessions drew over 10,000 fans.
Second Season of the SEC/ACC Challenge
• The second annual SEC/ACC Challenges will take place over back-to-back days. The men’s challenge will be Tuesday, Dec. 3, and Wednesday, Dec. 4, while the women’s challenge is slated for Wednesday, Dec. 4 and Thursday, Dec. 5. Both the men’s and women’s challenge events will feature games across ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ACC Network and SEC Network.
• The conferences split the Challenge last season with seven wins apiece. The ACC totaled three ranked victories for the two-day event including No. 18 Notre Dame defeating No. 20 Tennessee on the road, No. 22 Louisville fending off No. 19 Ole Miss in Oxford and Miami knocking off No. 21 Mississippi State in a road tilt. No. 5 NC State, Duke, Syracuse and Virginia all posted victories to round out the ACC's seven wins.
