Last month, Helen Mirren revealed that a scene was cut from “Barbie” in which Olivia Colman “came in and tried to take on the role of narrator and I had to fight her off.”

“I’ve never seen it,” Olivia Colman told IndieWire at the New York premiere of Sony Pictures Classics’ satirical crime thriller “Wicked Little Letters” on March 20 at the Crosby Street Hotel.

“They had arranged a call between me, David Heyman, the producer, and Greta Gerwig. I thought, “Oh, I know what that must be.” [for]”‘” Colman continued. “It made perfect sense because it didn’t add to the story, it was just fun. Maybe they ran over, I don’t know. But it was kind of perfect for me because I got paid for the job and then no one could say I suck at it.”

Colman not only stars in Thea Sharrock’s dark comedy, she also produces it. “I am the worst person. “I have no idea what producers do,” the Oscar winner reflected humorously. “I see them working really hard and I didn’t do any of that. I called Jessie [Buckley] and say, ‘Will you come and play with me?'”

Although both Colman and Buckley starred in Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Lost Daughter in 2021, they never did any scenes together as Buckley’s character was the younger version of Colman’s. But now the good friends and co-stars can finally share the screen together. “She’s one of my best friends and I love her so much,” Buckley said of working with Colman. “I love her so much as a woman and have always admired everything she does. I remember watching Tyrannosaur and having no idea how she even did it. You know, she’s just so superhuman. It was just amazing to go to work with her every day, have fun and be really naughty. If I could work with her on any assignment, I would.”

Jessie Buckley will reunite with director Gyllenhaal for her upcoming Frankenstein movie at Warner Bros. “We’re just getting started [filming]” Buckley told IndieWire while sporting a bleach blonde bob cut, perhaps as a possible nod to her upcoming character. “I am so grateful to be part of a community of extraordinary women who have so much to say, such brilliant minds and so much imagination. It’s beyond my wildest dreams to go back and work with him [Gyllenhaal] again. We really fell in love while working on The Lost Daughter.”

Celebrating her Irish Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her performance in Fingernails, Buckley also reflected on the hot moment Irish actors are having right now, particularly with fellow IFTA nominees Barry Keoghan and Cillian Murphy. “I always see Barry around,” Buckley said. “I’m also a big fan of Cillian. He is someone who has been doing incredible work for such a long time and is always so professional. I admire him so much as an actor and as a person. I just think he’s one of the greatest people in the world. I would love to work with both of them!”

And before we let Colman go, we had to ask her about the successful year her The Favorite director Yorgos Lanthimos had with Poor Things. “I mean, I honestly would work with him again for free in a heartbeat, and I think he probably knows that,” Colman said. “I know whenever he wins everything, I text him and say, ‘You’re awesome!'”
