At the 2024 Met Gala, Models Were the Moment—From Naomi ...

It wouldn’t be the first Monday in May–fashion’s biggest night!–without a strong model contingency on the red carpet. And the scene at the 2024 Met Gala was no exception.

Supermodels were everywhere you looked on Monday evening, from Kendall Jenner mounting the Met steps in a rare Givenchy dress by Alexander McQueen, to Kaia Gerber, a vision in white sequined Prada (and a hairstyle recalling her model mother’s).

There was Gigi Hadid, in a show-stopping Thom Browne gown embroidered with 2,800,000 micro-beads; Ashley Graham, in eye-catching, garden-gothic Ludovic de Saint Sernin; Precious Lee, in jet black dragonfly wings by Bad Binch Tongtong; and Lily Donaldson, who apparently hasn’t aged a day since the aughts, in champagne-colored Burberry (more on the British label in a moment). Amelia Gray had the rare privilege of wearing a look that actually features in “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”: a light-up terrarium dress from Jun Takahashi’s spring 2024 collection.

Elsewhere at the Met, Karlie Kloss sported Swarovski crystals in cherry blossom form, while Anok Yai donned a striking catsuit made with the same famous, sparkling stones. Vittoria Ceretti, who arrived with actress and K-pop star Jennie Kim, stunned in white Alaïa; and Adwoa Aboah revealed her pregnancy in an orangey-red two-piece H&M ensemble. Linda Evangelista, making her first Met Gala appearance in nearly a decade, was also elegance embodied in custom Khaite.

I personally loved Quannah Chasinghorse’s forget-me-not flower details, which were woven into her hair and matched her H&M dress’s lavender hue, and Alton Mason was similarly memorable in a dashing Thom Browne tailcoat (under which he went bare-chested).

But perhaps the best-dressed model of the night? One Naomi Campbell, in custom Burberry by Daniel Lee. The razzle-dazzle of her blue dress—part morning glory, part fresh ice—brought a hush over the reporters along the carpet as she made her way to the museum’s doors. Once a super, always a super.
