Watch live: Police give update after Gisborne brawl left two dead

A man arrested after a brawl at a party that left two men dead was an uninvited guest, police have confirmed.

The mass brawl unfolded on Saturday night after a 21st birthday party got out of control.

About 100 people were involved in the brawl, which also left three people critically injured.

A Gisborne man, 29, was scheduled to appear in court on Monday.

He was remanded in custody.

Police Minister Mark Mitchell, who travelled to Gisborne to provide support for police and the local community, and Gisborne Mayor Rehette Stoltz said the community was safe despite the tragedy.
