Who Plays The New Ghost Melody In 'Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire'?

While Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire brings back several stars from the original Ghostbusters movies and the 2021 reboot Ghostbusters: Afterlife, the latest installment also introduces a new cast member who plays a pivotal role as a ghost named Melody.

New in theaters, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire features a new squad of Ghostbusters in New York City, consisting of Gary Grooberson (Paul Rudd), the late Egon Spengler’s daughter, Callie (Carrie Coon), and her children Phoebe (Mckenna Grace) and Trevor (Finn Wolfhard). After wreaking havoc in the city while chasing down a destructive spirit, NYC Mayor Walter Peck (William Atherton from the original Ghostbusters), threatens to shut down the team and forbids Phoebe from being a Ghostbuster because she’s only 15.

Feeling dejected while Gary, Callie and Trevor are out busting ghosts, Phoebe encounters Melody — played by Emily Alyn Lind — while playing chess by herself at a park. Phoebe takes a liking to Melody — who is roughly the same age — after the lonesome ghost reveals that she tragically died in a fire. What Phoebe doesn’t realize, though, is her new, blue translucent friend is harboring a secret agenda.

Lind has compiled more than 40 screen credits since the 21-year-old actress began her career in 2008. While Lind has appeared in films like director Clint Eastwood’s 2011 J. Edgar Hoover biopic J. Edgar — where she played iconic child actress Shirley Temple — most of her credits are in television.

Emily Alyn Lind’s first big break in television came in the 2010 ABC fantasy drama Eastwick, where played Emily Gardner in five episodes from 2009 to 2010. Also in 2010, Lind played the recurring role of Emma Lavery in 16 episodes of the ABC daytime drama All My Children. From there, Lind appeared as the young Amanda Clarke in 18 episodes of the ABC mystery drama Revenge from 2011 to 2015.

After her long run on ABC, Lind hopped over to CBS to play Ariel in the medical drama Code Black in 17 episodes from 2015 to 2018. Most recently, Lind was a series regular on the Max reboot of the drama Gossip Girl, playing Audrey Hope in all 22 episodes of the series.

Lind isn’t the only performer to join the Ghostbusters family in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Kumail Nanjiani stars as Nadeem, a junk dealer who sells a mysterious artifact to Ray Stantz (Dan Aykroyd), while Patton Oswalt plays Ray’s librarian friend Hubert Wartzki. Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire also features original Ghostbusters stars Bill Murray (Peter Venkman), Ernie Hudson (Winston Zeddemore) and Annie Potts (Janine Melnitz), as well as Celeste O’Connor (Lucky) and Logan Kim (Podcast) from Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
